Princeton Overcome Yale 14-10, In 2022 NCAA Div I Championship Quarterfinal Match and Advance to the Final Four...!
HEMPSTEAD, NY(SMI-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY-MAY 21-23, 2022)-The Princeton Men's lacrosse team(#5 seed) triumphs over Yale (#4 seed) 14-10, in the 2022 NCAA Div I Men's Lacrosse championship quarterfinal match, advancing to the semifinal rounds to be played next weekend in East Hartford, Connecticut and during over 90'+ degrees high temperature weather at Shuart Stadium, Hofstra University in Hempstead Long Island.
With the win, the Tigers improves to 11-4, advancing to the final four for the first time since 2004 and who are in search of reaching the NCAA finals since 2002 and win their first NCAA title under head coach Matt Madalon.
In one of the hottest Saturday's afternoon game of the year in New York, Princeton opened the score first through Coulter Mackesy, scoring his 26th goal of the year at '47s and stunning the Bulldogs and the crowd very early in the game.
The Bulldogs answered back immediately ferociously with three consecutive goals in a span of 2:28 minutes through Lyons Chris scoring his (35) goal at 12:34(2:26), Hackler Patrick (10) at 11:38(03:22), and Sharp Brad adding his (17) at 10:06 (04:54) to put the Bulldogs in front 3-1, with 10 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Tigers never led their guard down and answered back with seven goals in ta row in two separate time slot. Princeton scored three goals in a span of 5' minutes through Jake Stevens, who scored his 22nd goal of the season at 06:25(09:35), Luke Crimmins (5) at 04:42(10:18) and Alex Slusher adding his 45th goal at 01:22(13:38) to make it 4-3, in favor of Princeton over Yale at the end of the first frame.
The second run took place at the start of the second half (Third Quarter), with the Tigers scoring four consecutive goals in a spurt of 04:26' minute through Christian Ronda netting his 21st of the season at 11:48(03:12), Sean Cameron(5) at 11:29(03:31), Alexander Vardaro(23) at 09:01(05:59) and Coulter Mackesy (27) at 07:22(07:38), increasing their lead of 8-3, over Yale, and what appeared to be the turning point in the game and seal for the victory of the Tigers over the Bulldogs.
With just over 04:00 minutes left in the second quarter and start of the third quarter, Yale tried to bounced back in the game and scored the next three goals in a row for to make it 8-6, and remaining with the hot and dry high temperature weather playing a key role in this match as well, the Bulldogs could not find space and penetrate the Tiger's defensive line the rest of the way.
In the third and fourth quarters, both teams traded goals back and forth but with Princeton closing-out their defensive line and controlling the midfield secured the victory of 14-10, over Yale.
The Tigers advance to the final four four and will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Cornell and Virginia to be played at on May 28 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.
